The plastic bag is the most ubiquitous example of disposable plastic.

But this site is concerned with the reduction of all disposable, single-use or short-term use plastic items and excess plastic packaging.

This site aims to give an idea of where plastic goes when it is thrown ‘away’, where that ‘away’ may be and the resulting environmental impact that can have. Plastic is an amazingly versatile and hard-wearing material, but those properties also make it an environmentally detrimental choice for disposable items.

In an attempt to reduce household waste, plasticbagfreebrighton.co.uk is encouraging all Brighton & Hove shoppers to use and re-use environmentally friendly shopping bags and encourage all shops to supply them as well as look at alternatives for retailer and shoppers to all short-use or single-use disposable plastic items.

This is intended to be a community campaign to bring together those of us who want demonstrate individual responsibility in our community.

This site gives details of suppliers of plastic bag alternatives, as information becomes available (wholesale and retail). It is also an information resource with facts and figures about the detrimental effects disposable plastics are having on the environment.

In the downloads section you'll find regularly updated items to print off, email or display to help Brighton & Hove become plastic bag free.

Let's follow Modbury's example by demonstrating individual and community responsibility toward our local environment!
